During the recent D23 Expo, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Jay Rasulo confirmed rumors regarding the Fantasyland expansion in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. Scheduled to be complete by 2013, this would be the largest expansion in the history of the Magic Kingdom and would vastly increasing the size of the existing Fantasyland.

We have some additional details along with concept art as revealed at the expo itself.

Rasulo revealed the following items we can expect to see in the expansion:

• Visit your favorite Disney Princess in her castle, cottage, or chateau. This will include sharing a dance with Cinderella, celebrating Sleeping Beauty’s birthday with the Good Fairies or joining Belle in an enchanting story performance in the Beast’s castle library.

• Be Our Guest and dine in one of three enchanted rooms inside the Beast’s castle.

• Fly with Dumbo high above brand new circus grounds, twice the size of the existing attraction with a new interactive, three-ring circus tent.

• Journey under the sea with Ariel, The Little Mermaid, in her very own attraction – also opening at Disney’s California Adventure in Anaheim in 2011.

• Meet Tinker Bell and her friends in the magical world of Pixie Hollow.

Orlando Attractions Magazine is reporting that the rumors surrounding recently leaked blueprints related to a very near future expansion of Fantasyland in Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom are indeed true. In fact signs that construction is about to begin are already evident.

If you recall from my recent write-up, the plans (shown below) call for the addition of several new areas to Fantasyland including sections devoted to Disney princesses Aurora, Ariel,  Belle and Cinderella. Additionally, Dumbo would be moved and enhanced with two spinning sections instead of one and Tinker Bell and her fairy friends would take over the current entrance of Toontown, replacing it with Pixie Hollow.

Here is some new information related to the expansion:

• Some cast members who have backstage access to Fantasyland and Toontown are now reporting that some construction has begun in these areas – and the assumption is that it is part of the major overhaul.

• Areas normally open for use by cast members are being blocked off and even some buses are being rerouted.

• There are sources who claim to have spoken to Imagineers who said that these plans are indeed final and in-progress.

Now I must point out that Disney has not officially announced any plans to renovate Fantasyland in Orlando yet, so it is all still rumors at this point. We will certainly keep wtach on any further news related to this “possible” project.

Thanks to The Disney Blog, we have seen what appears to be very real blueprints laying out all the new ‘attractions’ planned for an expanded Fantasyland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. While the plans look legit, the real question is have these been approved for construction and if so we should start seeing bulldozers pushing dirt as soon as October.

Here’s a bullet list of what changes/additions we may see in the near future:

• The only attraction that will remain from the existing Toon Town is Goofy’s Barnstormer. Dumbo will now be located across from the Barnstormer and will be expanded to two spinners doubling the capacity of that popular attraction.

• Several “meet and greets” are included in the plans including an expansion of Pixie Hollow, a larger meet and greet for Cinderella, Belle will get a meet and greet and a new “Be Our Guest” restaurant, Princess Aurora (aka Sleeping Beauty) will also get a spot and finally, Ariel, the Little Mermaid will have a meet and greet as well.

• A Little Mermaid attraction will be added (essentially a clone of what is now under construction in California Adventure).

By all appearances, it appears that this expansion is mostly dedicated almost entirely to the Pixie’s and Princesses that has become the marketing and merchandising focus of the Walt Disney Company the last few years.
