Silly Symphony Swings Debuts at Disney’s California Adventure

With an official opening date of June 11th, the newly re-themed Silly Symphony Swings began “soft opening” runs last Friday morning. What was formerly known as the “Orange Stinger” has been re-themed to the 1935 Mickey Mouse short feature “The Band Concert,” with the music of Rossini’s “William Tell Overture.”

New Bobsleds for Disneyland’s Matterhorn?

Disneyland’s Matterhorn Bobsleds was down for a brief refurbishment last week. During the downtime, a new prototype of bobsled (ride vehicle) was spotted. Unlike the current “cuddle” seats in the current sleds which typically accommodate two people per car, these new sleds holds three passengers per car in individual seats.

However don’t expect to see them right away as a cast member was reported as saying that last week’s goal was simply to test the prototype sleds, and that there is still “a lot” of work to be done.

Sherman Brothers Honored with Window on Main Street, U.S.A.

Main Street, U.S.A. was buzzing this past week with the tune of several familiar songs as Richard and Robert Sherman were honored with their own window. The window dedicated to the Sherman Brothers reads “Two Brothers Tunemakers,” with their names inscribed underneath. A window dedication is the highest honor a cast member can receive at Disneyland Park.

Bob Iger recently announced at the Walt Disney Company shareholder’s meeting that the D23 Expo will return in 2011, but to add to the excitement for D23 members this year, the official Disney fan club is introducing a brand-new event called “Destination D” which will be held this September in Anaheim, illuminating Disney’s fascinating and rich history.

Every since Disney Parks first announced the return of “Captain EO,” the 3-D film starring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppola that was shown at Disney theme parks in the 1980s and 1990s, there has been an incredible response from fans with many wondering exactly when the classic attraction would reopen.

Well wait no longer as “Captain EO” is scheduled to re-open tomorrow, February 23 at Tomorrowland’s Magic Eye Theater.
